Spicy citrus

Another super simple salad, this one a riff on something an Assamese student once told me her grandmother ate first thing in the morning. Might be a mite strong at that time (though I’ve tried it once and liked it) but it adds a nice zing to the mouth.

Peel and section tangerines, oranges, blood oranges and perhaps even grapefruits/pomelos according to availability and preference. Sprinkle with salt to taste and stir in a bit of freshly chopped coriander leaves and one green chilly also chopped fine. Salt to taste and then sprinkle raw mustard oil (to which I’ve devoted an entire page) over the salad and mix. Though not in the recipe, I also garnished this one with pomegranate seeds which added a nice touch of colour and taste.

It really is That simple.
